much ado about nothing

a blog about non-achievement

12.05.2006

what's the adjective that describes absolutely nothing? anyone? anyone?

while you're thinking, for those who wonder how much it would cost to have an organ removed from their belly and go back for blood transfusion the following week the total racks up to approximately $52k, compared to which the thousand dollar copay looks incredibly negligible. it's comparable to a decent bmw, an MBA in an average b-school, or the GDP of guatemala in early 1900s probably. so next time you wanted to have an extra organ removed, make sure you consider all of your alternative bangs for the same buck.

my moods are killing me. i'm constantly questioning my status on the happiness spectrum, i have been pretending to be someone else and somewhere else for so long i have literally lost any sense of my own reality. i keep catching myself pretending to be happy by singing to myself under the shower, or pretending to be sad by choosing to eat alone supposedly to study but actually just to sit at one big table all by myself and look aloof and preoccupied, sipping on my water-no-ice, poking my slice of lemon with my transparent thick straw. i wish i could smoke too, or at least owned a really old ragged blazer jacket and wore somewhat grey facial hair... i'm pathetic.

i'm practically lying to everyone who asks me how i am. i lie about my problems, or lack thereof for that matter. i highlight the most insignificant ones and never ever mention what bothers me the most. i mean it's never cool to miss your family, it's not cool to mourn over a relationship a year or so later, it's not cool to have pretty much the problems of every average joe, but it's cool to sound confused and depressed for no apparant reason, it's cool not to give a fuck, it's cool to bitch about everything that many wish they could have...

but then i'm not happy, i'd be lying if i said i am, i'm not sad either, i lack any single good reason to be so. until someone suggests the appropriate adjective in question, i just am, period.

ummm... i don't think there's a word for it or i would have found it in the past 5 years of blogging about it... but milk is a good guess... nonfat milk especially since it's got that gray tint...

At 9:21 AM, Blogger shadi said...

btw... since we said milk... don't miss out on the Garbage song, "Milk"

the first line is in fact: i am milk.

... true! you just try too hard to not be yourself. You even try too hard to live "your" life.

At 2:14 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why don't you like to be yourself. you seem to be the most confident man!

the fact is that Shahin assumes people give a fuck about him or his life or his mood swings or his lies!
Get over yourself & stop bitching about everything...

At 5:33 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Seems like you made someone very mad ...!!

What is notable about Shahin and his way of doing things is that even though he pictures himself in a state of confusion, is nostalgic and mourns (aka bitching according to anonymous-what a coward, or could he be a good friend trying to give him a pinch.), he continues to perform very well. Perhaps this is his way of being inspired, his way of getting fueled to do things he does. Everybody needs a source of energy, be it ambition, love, anger or nostalgia.
Yet, it might be worth for him considering other sources of energy. I don’t see a healthy positive mental feedback in nostalgia, unless it’s just a mask to wear in order to be inspired and creative. The words we utter have a strong influence on our mental state and will shape our version of reality. We better watch out how we wire our brains. I’ve ruined quite a few things in my life because I had the wrong perspective about them. And I have just started to rethink them. We have so many things to celebrate and be thankful about. The problem is that we always focus on the things we don’t have. Yet, we don’t know those how have them are probably less happy than we are! That’s who we are, a bunch of perfectionist, anxious people.

That someone can simply STOP reading this blog if he/she REALLY doesn't give a fuck about Shahin and his life! But I don't think thats the case;)

Dear careless reader,we do care...
BTW, i vote for stone rahter than milk, I think it symbolizes indifference better. But at the end, it's your decision...

Well.. Shahin i suggest u move from L.A and the whole Celebirty culture..
i mean u already have fan mail/ hate mail..
god knows what papparazo is doing to u...
i assure u UP north we do have rich famouse, Geeky people.. like a whol lot.. but nobody knows them.. so much for the fame!!!
since all the wackos are moving up north..
u gotta follow the suit..
get away from this maddness..

yeah, this is his way of being inspired and meanwhile ruining other people who are intimate with him and impressing the rest. It's just a smart play and he does it really well. In the state of confusion, he justifies everything for himself.

hehe, I'm loving this debate. I think now that you're moving up north, you should move really UP, as in OVER the border! I mean no one will care that much to leave the country in pursuit of nostalgic you :)

after that we'll go to the national league and then of course north american play-offs of jaam-e shahid alfie ;)

don’t you think the word “nothing” can be best associated with the word “empty”? for example, the basket is empty. what does that mean? you look into it and there is nothing there…correct? Empty = Nothing. by not experiencing emotions then to some level you are empty. at the end of the day, it is our emotions that either fill us or make us feel empty or make us feel like nothing. emotions and actions are intertwined – it is a Catch 22- either the emotion creates an action or the action creates the emotion. however, in your case – your blogs are full – never empty – although you try to set forth that tone of indifference, your emotions overpower the tone. each piece entails so much emotions in them, that I do not understand how you can say that you feel indifferent emotionally. in essence, you are all emotions. no?

in your next blog, I would be quite interested in knowing what makes you happy – when are you willing to place the happy mask on? at what point in your life, did you ever feel more than content – and where was that contention derived from – a person, an action, a place, a thing?
